Fire protection month in the time of epidemic

“INA Group firefighters operate within the company INA – Vatrogasni servisi, a newly established company 100% owned by INA, which started its operation on 1 July 2019. The company provides comprehensive services related to firefighting, emergency response, preparation of planning documents in the field of civil protection, and is prepared to operate in conditions of high fire risk, as well as other hazards. INA – Vatrogasni servisi, d.o.o. is professionally focused on the organization and implementation of emergency response at INA Group facilities by developing a professional firefighting activity specific for the oil and chemical industry.
May is the Fire Protection Month, and Ivica Grubišić, the shift commander, tells us what measures INA’s firefighters are taking in terms of preventing both the possible occurrence and spread of fire.
– Our primary task in firefighting is the prevention and control of tanker manipulation at filling stations, refuelling from ships at a tanker berth, maintenance of green spaces, hydrant network, fire extinguishers and equipment at our disposal. This year, the Fire Protection Month will be marked in accordance with the measures prescribed by the National Civil Protection Directorate. During the Fire Protection Month, special attention is paid to education and manners of preventing fire, so in recent years most of our activities were related to educational meetings with children and vulnerable groups. Given the unique current situation, this year we will postpone our activities for a safer time – Grubišić explains.
… An important segment in the work of the brigade is, as the firefighters like to boast, becoming and staying fit. Ivan Botić, head of the fire department, explained how they become physically fit for the job.

– In recent years, Cooper test (test of physical fitness) is used to check our physical fitness. Conducting this test additionally prompted us to improve our physical fitness while competing with each other, so that every year the results are even better. We have a small gym equipped with basic equipment for staying fit – Botić said.

Preparedness of the Solin Fire Brigade is always at the highest level and they are ready, as they say, for all types of interventions.

It is the job of the fire brigade to act preventively and operationally. Assessing and predicting potential hazards when performing tasks with tools that can start a fire is very important. Every intervention needs to be taken seriously and the task needs to be performed professionally. In addition to everyday tasks performed with firefighting equipment, fire drills are conducted once a month, in which, along with INA firefighters, local VFDs also participate, and several times a year the Public Fire Brigade of the City of Split is included in the drill. “
